One Workshop for Three Afternoons

A-301 BREAKING AND SHARING THE WORD (BIBLE-SHARING METHODS) Ms. Aleli Gutierrez from Bukal ng Tipan Pastoral Team guides the participants in learning and facilitating Bible-sharing Methods such as: 7-step Gospel Sharing Method and Text Map (for personal sharing); Group Response (for a group to respond to a social issue); Look – Listen – Love (for a group to practically help a group member in need). A-302 BIBLE WORKS: A GLIMPSE ON THE BIBLIODRAMA Ms. Joy Candelario from Bukal ng Tipan Pastoral Team guides the participants to explore creative ways in introducing the Scriptures to the young using various approaches from BIBLIODRAMA and other innovative strategies. This workshop aims to make our catechetical and youth formation sessions relevant, building community and transforming young people’s lives. A-303 YOUTH FORMATION SESSIONS: HOW? Mr. Joseph Angelo Guevarra, from Bukal ng Tipan Youth Team offers the participants skills in designing and facilitating integral and interactive faith formation sessions for young people. A-304 YOUTH-FRIENDLY HOMES, HOME-FRIENDLY YOUTH (FAMILY ISSUES AND YOUTH MINISTRY) The family is a central and important setting, agent, and theme in youth ministry. In this workshop, Mr. Choncho Sanchez, a volunteer for San Jose, Life’s Directions and Agimat Retreat/Seminars, also a professor at St. Scholastica’s College, Manila and has taken some seminar/workshops in Cefam, aims to enable participants to see the current situation of the family, to assess and discern the path it should take, and to take proactive steps towards its strengthening and flourishing in love. A-305 JOURNEYING WITH THE STUDENTS: YOUTH MINISTRY IN CAMPUS The three-afternoon workshop following the See-Judge-Act methodology hopes to raise the level of awareness of the participants on the many what’s, who’s, why’s, and how’s of ministering in campus. Designed to be Participatory, Reflective, Interactive, Discovery in approach, and Experiential in nature, the workshop to be conducted by Mr. Loreto S. San Juan of the Student Catholic Action of the Philippines (SCAP) aims to deepen the understanding of Campus Ministry from “what it is” to “what it should be.” Preferred Audience: Youth Ministers and Campus Ministers
A-306 ANIMATING YOUTH GROUPS Youth-groups, whether in the form of movements, associations, federations, clubs, sodalities, teams, etc., are an important setting for youth ministry. Animating youth groups refers to the growth-enabling (educative) relationship between youth minister and young people. It is therefore the aim of this short course to situate youth-groups and group experience within the total picture of youth ministry, to understand its dynamics and to learn the basic skills in youth group animation so as to enable them to become empowered youth animators. A-307 MODERN YOUTH AND MEDIA POWER (MYMP) Fr. Fidel Orendain, SDB, a media-educator and expert in Communication Studies, leads the participants to an awareness and in-depth reflection on how media continuously shape the values and lifestyle of Filipino youth and how educators of youth respond effectively to this phenomenon. A-308 LITURGY: ALIVE! (DESIGNING LITURGIES FOR YOUTH) Mr. Boyet Enar, from Bukal ng Tipan Youth Team, shares his experiences and helps participants develop skills in designing creative, participative and relevant liturgies for youth. A-309 LINGGO NA PANG-BIBBO (ORGANIZING SUNDAY CHILDREN’S LITURGY) Fr. Mel Racelis, SDB, Professor of Liturgy in San Carlos Seminary – Cebu, provides theory and practice in organizing Sunday Eucharist with children. He gives practical orientation on the use of the Sunday Liturgies for children in “Pambatang Katekesis”. Preferred Audience: Catechists, Religion Teachers, Liturgy Animators for Elementary children
A-310 LITDANSE (LITURGICAL DANCE) Mr. Njel de Mesa from the Koiné facilitates a basic liturgical dance seminar (coined by Koiné as Litdanse) that introduces the rudiments of creating contemplative and celebratory types of litdanses and includes discussions on the theological basis of liturgical dancing. Actual liturgical dance presentations (i.e. ballet, jazz, modern and hiphop) are given to the participants as case studies. A-311 CHALK/WHITEBOARD TALK Mr. Tat Ponce offers the participants skills in the use of the black/white board through drawings as a classical technique for effectively re-telling the story of Jesus in the school and parish settings. A-312 USING GAMES FOR CATECHESIS AND YOUTH MINISTRY Atty. Marie Gutierrez from the Chi- Rho Youth Movement shares her experience in using games in youth ministry and catechetical sessions. A-313 FILMS IN CATECHESIS AND YOUTH MINISTRY Film, like other art forms, has an artistic power unique to itself. It offers us a creative language --- an imaginative language of movement and sound --- that can bridge the gap between the rational and the aesthetic, the scared and the secular, the church and the world, and thereby throw open the Gospel. Fr. Ed Villanueva, SDB will lead the participants to experience how film can be an important tool in doing catechesis and youth ministry. A-314 DISCOVERING ONE’S SPIRITUALITY AS EDUCATOR IN THE FAITH This is a process based workshop wherein catechists, religion teachers and youth ministers are accompanied to discover their own spirituality as educator in the faith. Bro. Raymond Callo, SDB, a formator and youth minister of the Salesian Commission on Youth Ministry will facilitate this workshop. A-315 KATEKISTA: MAG-EXPLORE TAYO (SELF–EXPLORATION TECHNIQUES FOR CATECHISTS) Dr. Nati Pagadut, a Professor of Religious Education, offers various self-exploration techniques for open-mindedness to know and understand the “self” better in order to be more effective and joy “full” catechists. She makes use of psychoanalytic tools for introspection and sharing, prayer and dancing. Preferred Audience: Youth Ministers, Campus Ministers, High School Catechists and Religion Teachers
A-316 SOCIAL TEACHINGS, CATECHESIS AND YOUTH MINISTRY The Catholic Social Teachings have often been referred to as the “best kept secret of the Church.” Fr. Dexter Prudenciano, RCJ will lead the catechists and youth ministers who are involved in the formation of youth towards the promotion social justice, peace and integrity of creation by way of social analysis and reflection that hopefully will effect social transformation. A-317 LITURGICAL MUSIC There are two reasons why young people go to Church: an engaging homily and meaningful sacred music in the liturgy. Fr. Jessel Gerard (Jboy) M. Gonzales, SJ, Director of the Jesuit Music Ministry will share how to use music to make the liturgy lively, participative and prayerful. A-318 TEACHING VALUES EDUCATION THROUGH PERFORMING ARTS Mr. Eric Pablo, an organizational development designer/facilitator and a director for both stage and television, shares in this workshop his expertise and insights on how to conduct values education sessions through the techniques used in the performing arts. A-320 CREATIVE CATECHESIS AND LEARNER’S MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES Multiple Intelligences (MI) is a psychological and educational theory laid out by HowardGardner. MI identifies intelligences based upon a range of factors and criteria, including: Linguistic, Logical-mathematical, Spatial, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Musical, Naturalistic, Interpersonal and Intrapersonal. Ms. Hiyasmin Campos share some techniques on how one can use this MI framework in catechesis and youth ministry. Preferred Audience: Catechists and Religion Teachers
A-321 MAKE OUR HEARTS INTO YOUR HEART Fr. Armand Robleza, SDB conducts a 3-day workshop series for adults revisiting our discipleship with the Lord Jesus by way of articulating six foundational values of servanthood as shared between Jesus the Servant of the Father and Mary the perfect disciple of the Lord in the Gospel. A-322 COACHING Ms. Anna Jolinne Pamatmat will introduce the participants into the world of coaching, a contemporary strategy in helping young people draw out their potential and grow; hence a relevant tool for catechesis and youth ministry. This workshop aims to make the participants aware of the basic skills and components of coaching such as listening skills, asking questions, giving feedback, intuition and self-management. These skills are a big support to parents, teachers, catechists, youth ministers who are in a learning, educational and transformational environment. A-323 NON-NEGOTIABLES IN FACILITATING RETREATS AND RECOLLECTIONS Fr. Noel V. Sumagui, SDB, a youth preacher of Mary Help of Christians Center ofSpirituality in Batulao, Nasugbu, Batangas will refresh new and old youth ministers the non negotiable in facilitating retreats and spiritual activities for young people. He will share effective trends and critique new ones. Included in the talks will be his personal experience on using guidelines in the preparation, planning and implementation of retreats. At the end of the sessions, participants would be guided to share themes and programs they have been using to upgrade or even draw up new ones. A-324 CATECHESIS AND MUSIC Music is an integral part in catechetical teaching. Lessons are not complete without singing and dancing. Lessons are easier to remember when they are put into music and the children bring and sing these lessons with melodies in the streets, in their play area and at home. They share these lessons in songs with their friends and playmates. Here are some of the music activities to be given by Mr. Charles Javier: Singing in Catechesis, Story and Summary Songs, Memorizing Bible Passages and Books through Songs, Sunday Gospel and Biblical Songs, etc. Preferred Audience: General - all participants (Catechists, Religion Teachers, Youth Ministers, Campus Ministers)

B- 01 NEW VISION OF CATECHESIS ACCORDING TO GDC
Fr. Vic Cervania, SDB an expert in catechesis leads the participants to share their catechetical experiences and helps evaluate them for better and more effective ministry in the future in the light of the General Directory for Catechesis (GDC).

B- 02 KATEKESIS SA KASAYSAYAN NG SIMBAHAN NG PILIPINAS: “ANG SIMBAHAN NG PILIPINO”
Ito ay isang pagtatanghal ng kasaysayan ng Simbahan sa Pilipinas ayon sa binuhay ngPilipino ng unang tatlong daang taon ng pagpapalaganap ng Mabuting Balita sakanyang lupang hinirang ng Diyos. Ang Simbahan ng Pilipino ay higit pa sa mga gusali at lugar ng sambahang itinayo na mismo ng mga Pilipino sa pangunguna ng mgamisyonero na dumating sa Arkipelago noong ikalawang bahangi ng ika-16 daang taon(1565). Ang pakay ng kumperensya / panayam ay upang itanghal at ipakilala angSimbahan na nilikha at binuhay ng Pilipino sa pamamagitan ng kasaysayan pangkalahatan at pang-tangi (particular). Ibig ihayag ng tagapanayam na si Fr. Nestor Impelido, SDB, ang ilang kalagayang pangkasaysayan ng Simbahan dito sa Pilipinas at ang ilang simbahang local sa iba’t-ibang bahagi ng kapuluan. B- 03 YOUTH CULTURE
Fr. Marty Macasaet, SDB, provides the participants with an awareness of the so-called “Planet Youth,” along with some background knowledge about the two related issues of Generation Theory and Postmodernism. His discussions are filled with many examples taken from the culture of present-day Filipino youth, and also from experiences in youth ministry. Part of this workshop too is the viewing, analysis, and discussion of an appropriate video, thus “hitting-two-birds-with-one-stone.” There is a clear sociological perspective in this workshop but this does not preclude the many implications touching on many other fields, especially, youth ministry, catechesis, religious education and youth spirituality.

B- 04 PROCLAIMING THE WORD OF GOD VIA RADIO
Fr. Salvatore Putzu, SDB will share his experience in proclaiming the Word of God using the airwaves. He is the host of a radio program that prepares the listeners for the Word of God during the Sunday Liturgy. It is aired on Radio Veritas every Saturday evening.

B- 05 KNOW, LOVE AND LIVE THE EUCHARIST (UNDERSTANDING THE EUCHARIST) FOR YOUTH ONLY
This workshop will deal on the nature, history, theology, liturgical celebration and pastoral implications of the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Questions, reflections and observations on the celebration of the Eucharist (based on different pastoral contexts and cultures) will be discussed and given special attention by Fr. Renato De Guzaman SDB.
B- 06 PEER COUNSELING FOR YOUTH ONLY
Ms. Caroline Quiba will help the participants in understanding basic principles of peer counseling through the application of following key concepts: Self Understanding and Exploration, The Helping Process, Listening Skills, Attending and Facilitating Skills. The participants are encouraged to trust, share and interact with one another in order to learn and actualize.

B- 07 TO THE WELLSPRINGS OF HOPE (ANIMATING TAIZÉ PRAYER WITH THEYOUTH)
Since the late 1950’s, thousands of youth and young adults from many countries have found their way to a little village in France named Taizé, to take part in weekly meetings of prayer, reflection and sharing. Brothers of the Taizé Community, together with a team from the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Youth, will orient the participants on the Taizé Community and the prayer which has become meaningful in the lives of many people, and how to animate this way of praying in their respective communities.

B- 08 LET’S TALK HOLY (HOW TO TALK ABOUT SEX TO THE YOUTH)
Mr. Ed Sorreta shares his experience in helping the youth deal with a very sensitive and relevant issue for youth: sexuality.

B- 09 WORLD CAFÉ – AN APPROACH TO SPIRITUALITY TODAY
Mr. Gody Eala, from Communio et Missio Formation Institute, will conduct a conversation among the participants about World Café as a way to foster spirituality today. World Café fits the context of many Catholics involved both in secular affairs and Church ministries. Catechists and youth ministers may gain insights from this conversation on how to grow spiritually in the context of post-modern Christianity.

B- 10 BIBLE AND LITURGY IN HIGH SCHOOL CHRISTIAN LIVING CLASSES Fr. Salvatore Putzu, SDB reflects with the participants on how to animate the young students in their religion classes or youth ministry formation sessions in reading and relating the Word of God with their life. He will orient the participants on the use of the periodical “Exploring God’s Word” and the magazine “Word and Life” as an instrument for this experience.

B- 11 YOUTH SPIRITUALITY

B- 12 YOUTH MINISTRY: GETTING IT TOGETHER, TO GET THERE (KA-LAKBAY: DIRECTORY FOR CATHOLIC YOUTH MINISTRY IN THE PHILIPPINES)
Ministry to the youth is an ever-relevant ministry in the Church in the Philippines. With the growing presence of young people, both in numbers and in significance, the Church needs more than ever to impart a ministry among them that is relevant and empowering. Through Ka-Lakbay, youth ministers have a guiding document as they accompany the young in the spirit of the Lord towards a full life in Him. A team of youth ministers from the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Youth will facilitate the participants towards an awareness and appreciation of this Church document, and how this can be applied in their actual ministries.

B- 13 ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY FOR YOUTH ONLY
This workshop to be facilitated by Ms. Esther Pacheco will help us to address the urgent issue of environmental sustainability. We know our natural resources are not inexhaustible, and as young people who are heirs of the future, how do we make sure we have something to inherit?
B- 14 GENDER AND SEXUALITY FOR YOUTH ONLY
Mr. Jose Descallar will help the participants in understanding adolescence: the physical and psychological changes taking place; the beauty of growing up in spite of its ups and downs; learning to develop emotional and spiritual maturity to cope with the pressures of transition from youth to adulthood.

B- 15 THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW
This workshop will cover an over-view of the Gospel: its composition, the traditions and materials used by the evangelist, and its particular perspective on the person and teaching of Jesus of Nazareth. Fr. Gil Alinsangan, SSP will help us try to discover why it occupies first place in the canonical order of the Gospels and why it is a favorite resource for teaching especially for the early Church. He will treat at length some of the “treasures old and new” contained in the Gospel: the Infancy Narratives, the Sermon on the Mount, and the Parables “special” to Matthew.

B- 16 FACILITATING ADULT CATECHESIS
Fr. Renato de Guzman, SDB, a Professor in Catechetics, shares his thoughts and experience on evangelization today in doing catechesis among adults. He will lead the participants to a brief analysis of some prevailing practices regarding evangelization and catechesis of adults.

B- 17 YOUTH MINISTRY THAT WORKS: PHASES OF FAITH DEVELOPMENT OF THE YOUNG
Ka-Lakbay, the Directory for Catholic Youth Ministry in the Philippines, shows us a concept of faith-development which would serve as a guide in the understanding of young people, hopefully leading to the creation of relevant programs and activities in the ministry among them. A team of youth ministers from the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Youth will share their insights on this concept, and lead the participants in crafting proposals for their respective ministries. As a bonus, they will provide an orientation about the Prayer Ritual “A Candle for H.O.P.E.”, endorsed by the CBCP-ECY as a fitting community activity on the eve of elections.

B- 18 SKILLS AND STRATEGIES (YOUTH TO YOUTH MANAGEMENT) FOR YOUTH ONLY
The module/ track on skills and strategies for youth to youth management is all about YOUTH EMPOWERMENT. Fr. Gaudencio Carandang Jr., SDB will bring to the youth’s awareness the necessary skills and formative strategies that will create a dynamic partnership with the youth as they discover their own style in group management and organization. The participants will be provided with sharing of first hand experiences and updated technologies that will be of great help for the youth in creating a participative, dynamic and life giving partnership in the ministry of touching hearts and transforming souls.
B- 19 FUND RAISING STRATEGIES FOR YOUTH ONLY
Ms. Imelda Benitez will lead the participants discover their ability to identify needs, determine the resource requirement, develop appropriate strategies to address the needs and tap the necessary resources at the right time, right place and right opportunity. Participants will be exposed to learning from success stories of fundraising activities and their creativity will be challenged to apply in their respective local context.

The workshops in this track are related to the general theme of this year’s conference: Fostering Vocations. They are meant to help the participants, especially the youth, to deepen their understanding of the specific vocations in life to which God may call them.

C- 01 THE LANDSCAPE OF VOCATION PROMOTION IN THE CHURCH IN THE PHILIPPINES
Fr. Jason Laguerta, Executive Secretary of the Commission on Vocation – CBCP and Manila Archdiocesan Vocation Director shares the situation of the work of fostering vocations in the Church in the Philippines. He gives also some ways on how to promote vocations and indicates for catechists and youth ministers how they can contribute to this ministry. Fr. Gerry Martin, SDB, shares his experiences in doing this vocation ministry with the youth.

C- 02 CALLED TO BE AND TO LIVE IN MARRIAGE – CALLED TO BE AND LIVE IN SINGLE BLESSEDNESS
Willie and Aleth Hernandez, a couple involved in family life ministry, share their understanding of the sacrament of marriage and their experiences as husband and wife, as a couple and as parents. Linda Tacorda, a member of the Teresian Institute, shares her experience as a lay single yet committed and consecrated, serving God and neighbor.

Fr. Renato de Guzman, SDB gives a glimpse of an online course on the vocation, spirituality, and discipleship of catechists that he facilitates in the Catechists ONline Enrichment Study (CONES).

C- 04 CALLED TO BE AND TO LIVE THE RELIGIOUS LIFE
Sr. Carmencita Rodriguez, FMA, a member of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, shares her life and experiences as a religious sister. Sr. Carmencita is at present assigned in Don Bosco Girls’ Center Tondo. Bro. Noelvic Deloria, SC shares his life as a religious brother.

C- 05 LECTIO DIVINA
Pope Benedict XVI and the Fathers in the Synod on the Word of God encourage the faithful to pray the Word of God through Lectio Divina (Sacred Reading). Ms. Pixie Cuisia, from Contemplative Outreach Philippines, will offer the participants a way to facilitate Lectio Divina that the catechists and youth ministers may use for their spiritual formation and in their ministries.

C- 06 CALLED TO BE AND TO LIVE THE PRIESTLY LIFE – CALLED TO BE AND LIVE THE MONASTIC LIFE
His Excellency, Monsignor Honesto Pacana, Bishop of Malaybalay, shares his life as a priest and a bishop. In the Year of Priests, his sharing aims at helping the participants appreciate better the sacrament of Priesthood as well as the priestly ministry. A Brother from the Taize Community shares his life and experience of living in community or monastic life today.
